It's about the story. And it all starts with one.
Video Production + Website Design & Strategy = Bloom 253
My obsession is reviewing the marketing efforts of small businesses, listening to the owner’s mission (think desired end result) and using data to drive the marketing path forward which often includes video production and website design. Social media platforms can change overnight, and with that often goes your steady stream of customers. It takes time to pivot and put the new plan in action. I know we’ve just met but this is me highly recommending you have some kind of website holding your space on the internet. Something. Even a one page thing.
If you are a small business owner, you already know how much you work every day (and night) to make great products or deliver great services while also trying to make sense of online marketing. You’re already wearing a lot of metaphorical hats, right? I’m guessing marketing is dead last.
I’m here to show you ways to take the expense of marketing and turn it into an investment as it should be.
Videos and websites are often part of it. But here’s my first piece of advice: marketing is never one size fits all.
Websites have a purpose. And I recommend having at least a one page site. You can even build one for free.
I’ve built WordPress websites ever since my first in 2007 (I had previously used Blogger and another platform before that but I can’t even remember what it was) and saw first hand how it made a difference. I saw significantly more website traffic than I did with my previous platform.
And it still seems to be the best option for an SEO optimized website design.
Shortly after, only like a few years, I started producing my own videos. I had no idea video production would become an obsession for me. Websites often help out a marketing plan for sure but if I had to pick one thing it would be videos. Amplifying stories through video and promoting them (no paid ads).
My websites, when kept current and promoted online (I almost never use paid ads) were worth it. Even a one page little spot on the inter webs.
My website is my digital home base. Other platforms can change or go away entirely, but my website stays. And so does yours.
Now let’s talk about my favorite part of online marketing: video production.
Video production is the process of producing video content. It can be done with anything. Including a smart phone.
When I produced my first videos, I used a Sony Handicam, which I would not recommend if we were still back in 2010. I had to hook up the camera to my tv, transfer it to another device, then to my computer. It was the only way with what I had available. After a few videos using that setup, I got my first smartphone. And everything was so much easier.
I didn’t know at the time that 7 years later, I’d be asked to teach people how to use their phones to record videos and take pictures for their own businesses.
There were a bunch of times I wanted to quit. I mean, there were people producing their own videos with pretty face setups and expensive cameras and here I was playing around with my phone. I didn’t feel legit. But I was part of a small group of people who made their own videos every week based on a theme. For fun. And one of our teachers, I consider him my mentor.
He told me to cut the shit and stop comparing myself. To the point. And it took me hearing that several times (and more) before I started to lean into producing my own videos with whatever I had available. Which, until 2018, was my phone.
I made some fantastic friends who inspired me, both with my phone and with a camera. One on particular worked with some pretty big brands. And he saw no shame in using a phone. He seemed to be obsessed with video just as much as I was. I also caught some rude and judgy comments from other videographers. But I noticed the rude ones were also pursuing the clients I was working with or who expressed interest in working with me. So I made a mental note of who inspired me and who I learned from…in a different way.
And so I keep creating. The video at the top of this post was created solely with phones, by the way. It’s made appearances at public speaking events, networking presentations, and as an encouraging word for frustrated small business owners struggling to keep going.
It’s not about the equipment. It’s about the story.
You can do it too. Start posting something. It starts with one.

Who I Am
My name is Dionne, owner of Bloom 253 Marketing near Tacoma, Washington. I am obsessed with online marketing, specifically video production.
This isn’t my first digital marketing company. My previous company (Devoted To Video) focused mostly on video production and smartphone video coaching, along with simple, custom, and complete strategies for clarity and focus.
I had never planned on teaching people how to use their own phones to make results driven digital content but it was highly requested. So I listened.
One of my favorite things about Devoted To Video was producing video commercials and documentary style videos. Every video told a story. Yes, even the simplest videos about products and services.
I appreciated every single one of my client’s vulnerability and trust while we worked together to get them seen by their right people.
While I did work mostly with people in my local area, I can work with anyone virtually.
Video production and digital marketing as a whole is my passion (more like my obsession!) and I want to make this accessible to you.
Let’s simplify it so you can turn that expense into an investment.
What would it look like to work with me? It all starts with a conversation. Tell me how I can help you! If you don’t know yet, we can have a virtual chat and figure it out from there. Fill out the contact form if you’d like to start that way or schedule a free online consultation.
