What Is Video Production?
Video production is the entire process of creating a video. And to me, it includes the trust and vulnerable moments shared with a client. It’s way more than a business transaction.
I’m sharing this video telling the story of Dylan’s double lung transplant because it’s a fantastic example of why I love producing videos like this. Meet Dylan and his family was so much more than a transaction. There was vulnerability. There was sharing of private moments and there was trust. I’ll never forget this experience and I still think about it.
They were very involved in the process and specific about the placement of things, understandably. This video was created for a work conference.

Every video I’ve produced so far hasn’t been like the one above, meaning a deep personal story. Sometimes it’s solely about a product or a service.
But every video does involve vulnerability and trust between my client and I which is something I take seriously. So I value the connection just as much.
The technical parts of video production referred to in this post references the video production services I offer professionally. Steps for creating spur of the moment videos for social media is usually much, much shorter and faster than a full production even though it is still the act of video production.
Behind the scenes: Much of the process is done behind the scenes. My clients hire me to do a job and they may not see all the detail that goes into a production, but there is more than some may think.

- obtaining background music

- final editing
- distribution to client or online channels
When I produce a video for a client or a planned production of my own, these are most of the steps I implement. Even when using my phone.
Quick social media videos are much simpler with much fewer steps.
